Resonance has just released the latest edition of the World’s Best Cities Report – the most comprehensive city ranking on the planet.
Resonance has conducted extensive research on the rise of cities, the key trends propelling their growth and the factors that shape our perception of urban centers as desirable places to live, visit and invest.
As our cities and borders gradually reopen, it is clear that cities have been changed by the pandemic—in some ways for the better and in others for the worse. This year’s report reflects some of these changes. For example, the number of outdoor experiences in London grew, but violent crime and unemployment rose significantly. At the same time, crime fell substantially in cities like Rome, Madrid and Jerusalem (most likely as a result of lockdowns), while income inequality dropped and numerous new sites and attractions opened in Doha despite the pandemic, helping propel that city up the rankings.
And there is more change to come as we have not yet seen how many restaurants, retail and nightlife experiences will return in our cities. Next year’s rankings may look quite different. But for now, London sits atop our rankings as the World’s Best City once again. Followed closely by Paris and New York. The top 10 cities this year are:
- London, England
- Paris, France
- New York City, USA
- Moscow, Russia
- Dubai, United Arab Emirates
- Tokyo, Japan
- Singapore, Republic of Singapore
- Los Angeles, USA
- Barcelona, Spain
- Madrid, Spain
