Why wait for the weekend to have fun? The City of Alpine’s Midweek Mercantile and Music is the perfect way to enjoy local arts, crafts, food vendors, local music and more—all on a Wednesday. Inspired by the Alpine Farmers Market, this new event was created to further focus on the makers, musicians, and citizens that make the town special.
For first-time visitors, we suggest taking a stroll by the vendor booths on Third Street, which will be boasting incredible art, jewelry, and other homemade goods. Hungry? Third Street and Holland Ave. are also known for their ample food trucks, coffee shops, and other eateries. Get your meal to go and enjoy it on the lawn outside of the Alpine Visitor Center, where tables will be provided for dining. This will also be the site for local entertainment, so be sure to catch a live show (which will take place every Wednesday) from one of the many talented local musicians on their lineup. Interested in sharing your own music? Open mics and acoustic music circles are scheduled throughout the month, providing an interactive experience for guests.
The City of Alpine places a strong emphasis on COVID-19 safety, which is why face masks will be required while shopping. (If distanced appropriately, however, guests may remove their masks while eating and drinking.) The Midweek Mercantile and Music is already a mainly outdoor event, making it a great (socially distant!) opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy yourself.
Even while staying physically apart, Alpine has found a way celebrate community. Local artist Johnella Strong, who will be bringing her handcrafted art, jewelry, and lamps to the Mercantile each week, is one of the many makers who sees just how important the event is.
“I believe that being involved with our local community is all about building relationships: with the community, leaders, various businesses, and most importantly, with the citizens of those communities,” she says. “In times such as these we are in, it’s important that we not forget that togetherness, even at a safe distance, is vital to our physical and mental wellbeing. We are community. We are Alpine.”
